At the start of the 2026 academic year, the Microorganisms and Infection Doctoral School (MIcrobeS) officially opened at Université Paris Cité. This doctoral school, at the heart of today’s major scientific and health challenges, aims to train a new generation of scientists capable of addressing the major challenges posed by infectious diseases through a research continuum spanning fundamental approaches, clinical applications and public health, as well as “One Health” challenges.

The MIcrobeS Doctoral School is headed by Isabelle Martin-Verstraete, Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science, and Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Professor of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Practitioner at the Faculty of Health.

This initiative is part of a strategic partnership between Université Paris Cité and the Institut Pasteur in Paris, as well as a dynamic ecosystem structured around major issues related to microorganisms and infectious diseases, in connection with the Graduate Schools One Health – Emerging Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance, the Microb’UP Institut Hors Murs, and the Microb’Ex InIdEx.

The MIcrobeS Doctoral School is structured around three complementary scientific areas, fostering exchanges and collaboration between different research communities:

  • Microorganism biology, dedicated to understanding the fundamental mechanisms of bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and other microorganisms, from their diversity to their ability to adapt.
  • Host–microorganism interactions, exploring the relationships between infectious agents, microbiota, immune systems and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms.
  • Infectious diseases and global health, focusing on innovative approaches to epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and therapeutics from an integrated public health perspective.
