Department of Emergence and Spread of Multi-Drug Resistant Antibiotics
Cimi
The department focuses on understanding the mechanisms of bacterial multidrug resistance, with an emphasis on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP). It evaluates new approaches, such as the use of bacteriophages, to treat multidrug-resistant Mtb infections and prevent multidrug-resistant enterobacterial infections.
Additionally, it studies neglected diseases such as Buruli ulcer, leprosy, and rhinoscleroma, caused by bacteria. As the National Reference Center for mycobacteria, the laboratory plays a crucial role in monitoring mycobacterial strains.

Department: Bacterial Structures Involved in Modulation of Antibiotic Resistance
CRC
The department focuses on combating bacterial resistance to antibiotics, an increasing challenge in public health. It combines expertise in biochemistry, genetics, and medicinal chemistry to anticipate and counter the emergence of new resistance mechanisms. In particular, it focuses on enzymes involved in peptidoglycan synthesis, an essential component of the bacterial cell wall.
Research covers various pathogens, including mycobacteria, enterococci, staphylococci, and enterobacteria. It currently explores four axes: the involvement of aminoacyl-tRNAs in peptidoglycan synthesis, the development of new molecules targeting L,D-transpeptidases and peptidoglycan β-lactamases, optimisation of antibiotic treatments for Mycobacterium abscessus infections, and regulation of peptidoglycan cross-linking pathways in enterococci and Escherichia coli.
