Infectious diseases and climate change are intricately linked, forming a menacing alliance that profoundly impacts global health. The escalation of temperatures initiates a cascade of events that facilitate the spread of diseases. Firstly, the habitats of disease vectors, such as mosquitoes carrying dengue and malaria, expand into new territories as climates become increasingly hospitable to their survival and reproduction. Consequently, populations previously shielded from these pathogens are now vulnerable.
Furthermore, the escalating frequency and severity of weather phenomena attributable to climate change disrupt healthcare systems and infrastructures. Storms, floods, and droughts have the capacity to devastate clean water supply systems, damage medical facilities, and create ideal breeding grounds for pathogen proliferation. These disruptions facilitate the transmission of infectious diseases, exacerbating the challenges of prevention and control.
Throughout this conference day, featuring esteemed international experts, we will explore the nuanced interplay between infectious diseases and climate change. Our discussions will encompass the latest research and empirical evidence illustrating the direct impact of climate change on human health, with a particular emphasis on infectious diseases.
Additionally, we will scrutinise adaptation and mitigation strategies that can be implemented to counteract these adverse effects. By fostering awareness and galvanising global stakeholders, our goal is to catalyse concerted action to safeguard public health against the mounting challenges posed by climate change and infectious diseases.
